Glaciers: A Cold Issue on Global Warming
Glaciers have moved to the forefront of the global warming drama, because they are one of the signposts of how quickly the effects of global warming are taking place in our world. Unfortunately, as the seriousness of global warming becomes more and more real, it is becoming clear that glaciers are no longer a cold issue—they are fast becoming a literally warm issue.
Chances are you have already heard a lot about global warming. But like many of us, perhaps you do not completely understand all that can happen as a result of this dangerous phenomenon. One of the first and perhaps most devastating effects of global warming are already happening and can be seen happening in nature: the melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers across northern climates. Climatologists and other scientific researchers have been urging the public and leaders for many years about the prescient dangers of global warming. But what can happen with the melting of the polar ice caps and the glaciers?
What sort of effects can we imagine with the melting of the polar ice caps and the glaciers? It appears that the cold issue of the glaciers is going to be responsible for many natural disasters that the melting of the once-cold glaciers can have many devastating weather effects and overall climate change. What are some of the most disastrous results that can occur from the melting of the cold glaciers? The melting of polar ice caps and glaciers have been linked to a variety of weather change and activity, including more frequent volcanic eruption around the world and an increase in the amount of tsunamis, as well as an increase in the number of global earthquakes.
What other harmful effects might the melting of the once-cold glaciers have across the world and the United States? It appears that the effects of losing the earth's glaciers will cause widespread climate change that no one, no matter what part of the world they live in, will be spared from entirely. The effects of global warming and global climate change, climatologists warn us, will be widespread and devastating. Even people living in northern climates, including those who have been spared from the weather such as the Atlantic hurricanes, will not be spared from the effects of global warming that causes the melting of the polar ice caps and once-cold glaciers.
How will the melting of the world's great glaciers affect the way the world works and looks? How will the loss of the great glaciers affect our global climate? Most climatologist and scientists believe that when the world's great glaciers start to melt, this will relieve a very important kind of glacial pressure. As you can probably already imagine, glacial ice tends to be very heavy and thick. This means that these large and heavy sheets of glacial ice undoubtedly exert a very strong pressure on the earth's surface.
So what happens when the world's great glaciers begin to melt? When the world's great cold glaciers have melted away, this may cause the pressure they once made on the earth's surface to become reduced in a dramatic manner. All kinds of things can happen when this kind of glacial pressure is suddenly relieved. Many geologic reactions may occur in response to this 'lifting' of pressure.
Some of these reactions may include a longer and more intense hurricane season, a great increase in the number of earthquakes, and many other serious seismic activities, including more tsunamis. When the world's great glaciers melt, it will be devastating for the earth. Most of the world's scientists agree that something must be done immediately in order to save the cold glaciers.
