Let's face it, purchasing enough solar energy panels to run your entire household is a big upfront cost. Even though it can, over time, be recovered and save you money in the long run, you need to have all the facts in order to make the right decision for you and your family. Almost every website you go to talks about how wonderful solar energy is. We all already know that is it better for the environment and that over time, it can save the homeowner a lot of money. But, not too many people understand the disadvantages of solar energy and they need to be educated on it.
This is not to say the solar energy is not better for a house, but as with any service or with any product that you purchase, there are good things about it and there are bad things. To be a totally informed consumer, you must know all the facts including the disadvantages of solar energy. But while there are a few things to think about, the bright side is that solar panels are virtually maintenance free because once they are installed, that is pretty much it. Also, they are silent as there are no parts that move and you can always increase your number of panels as your needs for power grows.

Although you may be able to seek some help from the government for the costs of installing solar energy, even just a few thousand dollars upfront may be a little too much for some families. Also some more disadvantages of solar energy are that the more power you need, the more panels you need which means you have to have a very large area for their installation. Remember too that the whole point behind solar energy is that you are taking advantage of the sun so pollution and clouds in the air can affect the efficiency of the entire solar power system.
Some other disadvantages of solar energy are that of the fact that at nighttime, there is no solar energy to be collected which means you will have to have enough battery backup to get you through the nights. Also, you are going to see an increase in the price of solar power systems because as the energy shortage increases, the companies producing the solar power systems are going to start rising their prices. While many feel that the advantages over power the disadvantages of solar energy, every consumer must be completely aware of what they are getting.
