So what can you learn about "An Inconvenient Truth" that you may not already know. In other words, why should you care about this popular documentary, and why should you listen to what Al Gore has to say?

In Al Gore's revealing documentary, the truth about global warming comes to a head. The documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" offers a dangerous picture of what the future holds for us if our governments continue their current policy. According to the information provided in "An Inconvenient Truth," our planet may eventually reach a tipping point that can be the beginning of Earth's decline, and according to the information provided in the documentary, this tipping point could happen in as soon as ten years.

According to Gore and the panel of scientists that testify in An Inconvenient Truth, once Earth has reached this tipping point, our planet will begin its gradual decline that will lead to the complete destruction of the world as we know it.

But even though these facts alone are compelling, does this documentary make compelling viewing? Although it may not seem like a compelling documentary based purely face value, it turns out that the documentary actually does make very compelling viewing. "An Inconvenient Truth" shows Al Gore standing on a large stage before a very large screen in front of an audience. The information presented by Al Gore is based on a speech he has been constantly revising over the past ten years or so.

According to the information presented by Al Gore in "An Inconvenient Truth," in recent years almost one thousand peer-reviewed journals have been written and published that deal with global warming. According to Gore, among the mainstream scientific community, there is no controversy over the urgency and existence of climate change. One of the most dramatic and striking moments of "An Inconvenient Truth" is the picture known as Earth-wise.

The picture is essentially a photograph of planet Earth taken from space by the first group of American astronauts. Then Gore presents a series of photographs taken of Earth by in later times. These pictures show the signs of global warming: the melted ice caps, the retreating shorelines, and the melting snows. In short, the earth is changing, and it is clear that climate change is responsible.

Gore also provides many convincing statistics, including the fact that the ten warmest years in history have occurred in the previous fourteen years. Another scary statistic: the first hurricane to ever hit South America struck last year. The weather has begun to be brutal in other areas of the world as well. For instance, the Pacific and Japan have recently experienced a surge of typhoons. And who could forget the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina?

More evidence can be seen at the cores of polar ice, which demonstrate a much higher rate of carbon dioxide. Gore shows a graph that shows how carbon dioxide patterns has operated in cycles over the years, but that now it shows a definite increasing pattern. As Gore explains, the primary explanation for global warming can be traced to the burning of fossil fuels. All the coal, oil, and gas being released into the atmosphere are causing global climate change, Gore warns, and he has the scientific evidence to prove it.
